This tutorial is to download the 2018 server files using steam CMD
Requirements
VPS or dedicated server
This tutorial is written using Ubuntu 22.04 as the installed operating system
- Bare minimum: 2 vCores/Threads/2GB ram/30GB+ Storage
- Recommended: 3 vCores/Threads/3GB ram/50GB+ Storage

1) Installing SteamCMD
Note: I personally put this in a file and run it as its easier for me. To do that type:

3) Combine the depots
You will have to combine the files inside these directories below together in order to complete the server files.
The folder path to the files are below, this is assuming you are in the same directory you have Steam CMD.
linux32/steamapps/content/app_740/depot_731
linux32/steamapps/content/app_740/depot_740
If you want to copy the files to a folder called 'server' in the same directory you would do below:

start script. this will screen the server so it runs 24/7

Remember to replace the 'YOUR_SERVER_DIRECTORY' with the directory your server is in if you want the script to live somewhere the files are not. if the start script is in the same directory as the srcds_run you can remove everything before the 'screen -S server' part. you can also change the name of the screen by changing the 'server' word after the 'screen -S'

Note: If you want to compile sourcemod scripts make sure to download the windows version since you're here
How To Compile Sourcemod Plugins
Download the windows build of the sourcemod version you run and extract it. Navigate to the addons\sourcemod\scripting\
Place the files of the plugin you want in addons\sourcemod\ and run the 'compile.exe' application in the scripting folder.
If all goes well it will say the completion time and spit the compiled file into 'addons\sourcemod\scripting\compiled' as an .smx file
After that you will transfer it to your plugins folder in your servers 'csgo\addons\sourcemod\plugins' and any other files such as the translation files, configs, extensions, etc.
5) Adding a game server list token (GSLT)
Login to
Set the app ID to 730, memo is used as the name for the token. The memo can be anything
Copy the token, go to csgo/cfg/server.cfg and replace "YOUR_TOKEN" with your token.
If you want a preconfigured server.cfg you can get it from the attached files on this post.
6) Setting up a new user to run the server
`sudo useradd -m steam`
`sudo passwd steam`
Note: You will need to move the server files to /home/steam before you continue. such as below:
Remember to replace the 'YOUR_SERVER_DIRECTORY' and /home/steam/server to fit your needs
7) Start server! (OPTIONAL)
Optional: Change to the user you created if you are using one
Optional: `sudo -u steam -s`
Optional: `cd /home/steam`
Run the command below in the root directory of your server
`./srcds_run -game csgo -console -debug -condebug -usercon -maxplayers_override 30 -tickrate 64 +map de_dust2 -port 27015 +game_type 0 +game_mode 1 -insecure`
If you want to run the server 24/7 use the start.sh from the attached files on this post!
8) Server plugins
If you want to install any plugins make sure its from around March 2018 so it is compatible.
News: I will soon release a separate post linking common plugins people install and the links.
